KANIN - CANIN SKI RESORT

By the beginning of the 2009/2010 ski season, the KANIN ski slopes will be connected with the Italian side of the mountain, namely with the SELLA NEVEA ski slopes. At this point, preparations to start the related work are intense. A new cableway needs to be constructed as does a piste connecting both ski centres. All works is to be completed by February 2009, which means that at the beginning of the next skiing season, our guests will be offered twice as many hectares of skiing area.
The connected ski centre will probably be called KANIN - CANIN and will be an example of the first such connection of two ski centres in an area where for most of the previous century there was a strict border dividing two territories of rather different ideologies. What seemed to be a dream - simply skiing across the border (which not so long ago used to be protected by arms) without any mandatory border formalities - is now becoming a reality.
The connected KANIN - CANIN ski centre will operate with a single ski pass enabling access from both the Slovenian (Bovec) and Italian (Sella Nevea) sides of the mountain. The KANIN - CANIN ski centre will become one of the largest in Slovenia, enabling skiing late in spring due to the high attitude on both sides of the mountain. The pistes will range from 2,300 m a.s.l. on the Slovenian side to 1,100 m a.s.l. in the valley on the Italian side. While the Slovenian side will offer sunbathing and views to the Gulf of Trieste, the Italian side on the northern slopes of Kanin will invite you to experience a winter fairytale. KANIN SKI RESORT

Kanin reaches its true potential in the winter. The ski resort's altitude above sea level (up to 2 300m), the thickness of the snow cover (up to a few meters) and the splendidly maintained pistes will impress even the most demanding guests.

One double-seat cablesway, one three-seat cableway, the completely new fourt-seat cableway that takes you to the Italian border (Sella Nevea), a cable car and a children's ski tow will all make sure the waiting lines are short and the skiing made even more pleasant. The skiing enthusiasts will enjoy rushing down the newest piste of Prevala and above all skiing down the more than two kilometres of the Skripi piste, which has - due to its beauty, grand view over the Bovec basin and the entire Julian Alps including Triglav - become the trademark Kanin. The pistes Veliki Graben and Podi with its children's ski tow are suitable for children and the less-skilled skiers. All who find well-maintained pistes limiting may enjoy ski touring along the huge expanses of the Kanin-Rombon mountain range, starting with the best known valley of Krnica.

The services of this high-altitude ski resort – the only one in Slovenia - are further complemented by a skiing school, ski equipment rental services, restaurant and bistro at the ski piste, and tandem paragliding.

Another special feature is the possibility to ski in three countries: the ski pistes of Sella Nevea and Traviso in Italy and Arnoldstein in Austria.
